Recorded at Sound Mind Studio
in Easton, MA, "Sacred Songs" contains thirteen pieces from a
variety of folk and sacred traditions. Along with four original pieces
(three of Doug's and one of Steve's), this CD contains traditional gospel
hymns ("Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "Farther
Along"), music from the St. Louis Jesuits ("Be Not Afraid,"
"What You Hear in the Dark," and "Turn to Me"), a
Shaker tune, an old Welsh hymn, a contemporary hymn written by Brian Wren,
and Mindy Jostyn's adaptation of the thirteenth chapter of First
Corinthians, set to the tune of "The Water is Wide." Arranged
for two acoustic guitars, these songs are simple vehicles for Arnold +
Gretz's rich vocal harmonies. |
