You're the One

I watch you as you sleep so silent and so deep
And I listen to each breath you take beside me
And I wonder if your dream is as peaceful as you seem
Lying here in the shelter that I try to be
Cars outside my window cast their shadows on the wall
As the stars slowly sink from view
Somewhere in the cold out there I hear a siren call
But in this room I’m safe and warm with you
You’re the one who could find my hiding places from the start
And lead me gently, where I want to go
You fill the empty spaces in my heart
The way that footprints fill with freshly-fallen snow
I see the empty years and the wasted unshed tears
That made up my life before the day I found you
And I thank those setting stars for all the things you are
For the comfort and the joy I feel around you
I don’t know the reason why it took so long to find
This peace I’m feeling waiting for the sun
But each life has a season when the heart can thaw the mind
And in your arms my springtime’s just begun
You’re the one who can open prison doors inside my soul
You make me blossom, every place you touch
You reach inside to places I can’t go
And teach me freedom by the way you love so much
